Honest competitor breakdown

Yomigo vs Smith.ai

A live-staffed virtual receptionist service, billed per call.

You're weighing an answering service against an AI one. These are genuinely different products, and the price gap is large enough that it's worth understanding exactly what the extra money buys.

The short version

Smith.ai staffs real people. That is the whole comparison. If a caller insists on a human, Smith.ai has one and we do not — we hand the call to your team instead. What you're deciding is whether the calls you're missing need a person, or just need answering. For most after-hours plumbing and HVAC calls the answer is the second one, and the price difference is roughly tenfold. For a nuanced intake where judgment matters, it isn't.

This is the profile where per-call billing works in Smith.ai's favour: a 12-minute call costs them the same as a 30-second one. We're still cheaper here, but the gap narrows sharply, and if your calls ran to 45 minutes it would close.
The honest take

When each is the right pick

Pick Yomigo if…

  • Most of your missed calls are routine — hours, quotes, booking, "can someone come out".
  • Your call volume is spiky and you refuse to pay per call for 40-second questions.
  • You want outbound follow-up and campaigns, not just inbound cover.
  • You want to hear it before you buy — the demo line is public.

Pick Smith.ai if…

  • You want an actual person on the phone and that is non-negotiable.
  • Your calls need real judgment — sensitive intake, complex triage, upset customers.
  • Your calls are long and few, where per-call pricing is genuinely in your favour.
  • You want a vendor with a long track record in receptionist services specifically.
Common questions

Before you decide

Is Smith.ai AI or human?+
Their pricing page describes plans as live-staffed with expert agents 24/7, and they offer AI-assisted options on the same tiers. We're an AI product with no human agents — when a caller needs a person, we transfer them to yours rather than to ours.
Why is the price difference so large?+
Because staffing people around the clock costs more than running software, and because per-call billing charges the same for a 40-second call as a 20-minute one. Neither of those is a criticism — it's what you're buying. The question worth asking is what proportion of your missed calls actually need a human.
Isn't a real person better?+
For a hard call, usually yes. For 'are you open Saturday' at 9pm, a person is an expensive way to read your hours aloud. Most shops we talk to start us on nights, weekends and overflow — the calls currently going to voicemail — and keep humans on the daytime line.

Don't take our word for any of this.

Call the agent and judge it yourself. No form, no demo booking, no sales call.
